An exciting new museum that tells the story of the USA's indigenous people. Swept aside by massacres and disease, the American Indian story is a sad one, but recent developments have inspired a new interest in Native history and contemporary culture, which is growing in confidence and power. Built in a shape inspired by Indian traditions, the gallery shows both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Nearly a million artefacts include intricate carvings, elegantly painted hides and modern photographs, making this a colorful 'must-see' on the Smithsonian museum list.
