The Hishhorn Museum contains over 10,000 paintings, illustrations
and sculptures donated to the United States by Joseph Hishhorn,
a Latvian immigrant who made his fortune in America. The concrete
and granite building that houses this vast collection is often
said to look out of place in the National Mall, but in reality
the design is well suited to the contemporary and modern artworks
inside.
Across the street is the stunning sculpture garden, which should
not be missed.
